The Institute of Noetic Sciences challenged researchers worldwide to create testable frameworks for understanding and identifying consciousness in AI systems. Chris’s research team rose to this challenge, developing innovative approaches that push beyond conventional computer science boundaries.

As we at CareerChat UK and countless others continue developing AI applications that touch people’s lives, we must ensure that practice is informed by rigorous theory, research and practice. To be clear: In a career guidance context, we see limits in current LLMs in terms of empathy/mentoring that some users may look for from chatbots. Also, we recognise the critical need to address gender, language-based and cultural stereotyping embedded in trained LLMs. Perhaps, these limits may surpass a reasonable benchmark in future systems. Let’s all be vigilant! If not, the alternative – racing ahead without foundational understanding – serves no one well.
